Space is the place we inhabit - the specific location or stage where the drama of our lives unfolds. It is the physical space of our homes, offices, and city streets - it is the place beyond our horizon and our atmosphere that extends infinitely through the universe - but it is also the intangible place in our heart and our minds. This special place, which is just as real and as important to us as our terra firma, I call InnerSpace.
InnerSpace is the place where our minds wander when we look out the office window. It is the place where our dreams blossom, where our fantasies come true, where each of us lives "happily ever after," or where we communicate with the hereafter. It is also the place where our demons torture us, where our agonies are displayed, where our fears are realized, and where our confusions are examined. InnerSpace is the address where our inner child frolics without care.
Each one of us has our own unique InnerSpace and they are as different as our respective DNA. The paintings in my collection represent some of my InnerSpaces - a window into my unknown, into my dreams and fantasies, into my frustrations, and into my past. For the most part, my InnerSpace is peaceful, beautiful and free. However, life's inherent conflict, the seminal dialectic of "being" is also articulated. Through these paintings I innervate myself and articulate a spiritual language - this language sustains me during my daily routine and helps to nurture my dreams and resolve my conflicts.
Through these paintings, I also hope to provide a mirror onto which others' InnerSpaces can be articulated. In a war-ravaged and polluted world, I consciously act out my art as a peaceful and safe place in which to resolve conflict and on which to meditate on the beauty and horror of life. While we will see different things, I hope that the act of seeing - what is effectively our mutual InnerSpaces - will be a positive and transforming experience for all.
